I love travelling. Whether it’s within my city or half a world away I truly believe there is no better opportunity to open your mind to the universe and who you really are than to experience new people, things and places.
Visiting Brno, Czech Republic, was a first for me in that not only did I have zero grasp on the language but they also use a different alphabet so I could barely guess what I was reading half the time and had no choice but to throw caution to the wind and trust the experience.
Brno is a beautiful patchwork city full of buildings with varied styles, vibrant colours and intricate, often gothic, architecture. I am an enormous fan of history and the various castles scattered in and around the city were breathtaking to me. Standing in the unchanged ancient grounds, imagining a medieval world buzzing around me is unlike any other feeling.
Plant Based Brno
For those of you who don’t know, I went vegan for the planet and happily have been for years now. I don’t regret that decision at all but it does make it a bit of a gamble when you can’t read the menu. Armed with google translate, I did however discover some wonderful plant based surprises in Brno that I am missing now that I’m back in the UK. Both an amazing fleet of vegan gelato trucks that serve the most interesting flavours at different spots all over town and incredible cupcakes with a huge variety of rich flavours and artistic decoration. In addition, most restaurants were happy to accommodate and adjust recipes to make them vegan friendly. It was delicious!
Although Brno probably wouldn’t have been in my top 10 travel destinations if I wasn’t visiting family, I’ve never been anywhere like it before and I’d happily visit again. Maybe I’ll explore the nearby cities of Prague and Vienna next time too!
